About the ABM Group

Established in 1963 by the UK-based Chloride Group, Associated Battery Manufacturers (ABM) is the largest battery manufacturing company in East and Central Africa and the only battery manufacturing company in Kenya. The company produces automotive and solar batteries, both maintenance Free and dry charged, using the latest technology and process methods. All our batteries are made to the highest quality standards and undergo rigorous testing to ensure dependability in their respective applications.

ABM employs over 800 staff members, recycles 12,000 metric tons of lead annually, and produces over 1.6 million batteries each year. The company is guided by the vision: “Energy Solutions for All.”

The ABM Group includes Chloride Exide Limited, which is the largest battery and renewable energy distributor in the East African region, with a network of over 20 branches and more than 2,000 dealers. Chloride Exide is located in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

ABM’s operations adhere to world-class quality standards, including ISO 9001:2008 certification (since 2000) and ISO 14001:2004 certification (since 2009)

ABM’s in house plastic injection molding business produces over 1.5 million battery casings per year along side a host of peripheral plastic products.

Through various initiatives, we strive to make a positive impact on society and the environment. One aspect of ABM’s CSR initiatives involves community engagement and support. 2001: First company in the country to be ISO 9001 Quality Management System Certified and involved in the initial draft

2005: Complied with Occupational Safety and Health Act

2011: Certified 14001:2004 (Environmental Management System)

2013: Launched a company-wide Kaizen Practitioners course for all management staff; there were 15 Certified Kaizen Practitioners

2014: KAIZEN AM Step 3 Certified

2014: Started pursuing ISO TS – 16949
